On the afternoon of December 21 after fighting fires for a number of weeks straight, mother nature decided to show her absolute might and belted our area with a wild fire from hell. Almost half of my RFS colleagues at the Clarence Dargan Fire Brigade lost their houses, I was a little luckier, saved the house but lost the nursery.
We lost our green houses and hot house, a heap of propagated stock and virtually all of our shelf stock. While we had sprinklers going all through the fire attack, the intense heat killed anything that wasn't already burnt to death.
We love our native plants, we love the bush and we enjoy working in our garden and also helping others who share that passion. While living in the bush has its drawbacks like what we have just been through, I love this place, I love the people and I love gardening. My wife Patricia has built a beautiful garden over the past 10 or so years here in Dargan and on that horrid Saturday it was all gone in just an hour. We will rebuild and make it better than before.
We are committed to providing quality products that is suited to your garden, if we think it will not grow where you are, we will not want to sell it to you.
Before the fires came, my garden was stressed and dying in a number of places, after the bush fire has hit, I had virtually nothing.
I have researched better ways to beat the bush fires, better ways to set out a garden in this harsh bush land and build something amazing. Refer my web page in landscaping for bushfire safety.
We are back in business, come and visit. Since the bushfires I have doubled our stock holding and continue to research more rare and interesting native flora to put in our gardens.
While it will take quite a while to restock and rebuild our propagated stocks, we have some great product on the shelves now - please come and visit
After the fires our little lady in the garden was not happy
Amazing how fast things regenerate
Looking out the back after the fire was pretty depressing
A huge thanks to my wife's sisters who came from far and wide to assist in the rebuild - looking sweet alright
